Terraseed consists of a physical barrier  made up of an absorbant lower layer and an upper layer made from a semi-permeable, degradable, plastic film. Seeds are strategically placed between these two layers in rows.

The absorbant lower layer retains moisture and controls weeds. The plant roots then germinate and penetrate through the lower layer into the soil.

The upper layer retains moisture and protects the crop from soil contamination, as well as conserving moisture due to reduced evaporation. The shoots germinate and grow through perforations in the plastic film.
