Terraseed®
patented systems have been developed to help growers meet increasing demand and stringent requirements of customers, retailers and the regulatory bodies whilst providing higher quality and greater productivity.

Key issues facing salad and vegetable growers include:

  • Loss of agrochemicals for weed, pest and disease control

  • Risk of product contamination from soil, and microorganisms including E Coli and Salmonella

  • Lack of traceability

  • Cost and lack of reliable labour for repetitive tasks such as transplanting and weeding.

  • Cost and lack of availability of peat substitutes for transplants

  • Cost of specialist machinery for seeding, planting and weed control

  • Difficulty of maintaining continuity of production in wet conditions

Terraseed Classic™ and provides a physical barrier that reduces the need for:

  • herbicides for the control of annual weeds
  • fungicides for some soil born leaf diseases
  • insecticides for flying insect pests (e.g. carrot fly, onion fly and cabbage root fly) that lay eggs in the soil near the base of the host plant
  • transplanting

Terraseed Excel™ increases the degree of protection by allowing the crop to grow between the upper and lower layers

Terraseed Classic™ and Terraseed Excel™ reduce irrigation demand and prevent soil and microbiological contamination of leafy salads from E Coli and Salmonella, improving food safety and increasing shelf life.

Terraseed Classic™ is currently recommended for the production of the following crops and varieties:

  • leafy salads (e.g. lettuce, rocket)
  • herbs (e.g. parsley, coriander, basil)
  • root crops (e.g. carrots)

Terraseed Excel™ is currently recommended for the production of robust fast growing leafy salads that are strong enough to lift and support the upper layer without damage to the crop below.  Crops grown successfully with Terraseed Excel include:

  • baby leaf lettuce
  • carrots

A programme of trials is underway to increase the range of crops recommended for use with all Terraseed products.

Please contact us for updates and advice if you are interested in other crops or varieties not listed above.

Terraseed Classic™ and Terraseed Excel™ heat the soil and retain moisture.

Terraseed Classic™ and Terraseed Excel™ are supplied in rolls that are 1.5 or 1.9m wide and up to 200m long. A maximum of 24 rows can be seeded at a wide range of population densities at 7.5cm row centres.
